The feelings they evoke, the memories they recall, and the power they can have.
I have favourite words, even in other languages. Un pamplemousse in French (the pedant in me can’t leave out the article) or izquierda in Spanish. Each year I even pick a ‘word of the year’ – one year it was lanyard, another time, malarkey (a personal favourite!) .
To me words aren’t just tools, they are instruments.
What does all this have to do with what I do?
In communications the right words are the difference between a crisis or campaign managed, and a lost reputation.
For 25 years I have worked across the public sector, health and not for profit sectors, before venturing out into freelance.
I’ve led award-winning in-house teams, and worked on several large and national campaigns, crisis comms, and times of change.
I don’t shy away from the tough topics
I am comfortable in places others can find challenging having worked across adult social care (including dementia, end of life and safeguarding), COVID-19, global clinical trials, children’s mental health and many more.
Whether I am drafting a five year growth strategy, or crafting a creative campaign for dementia, my approach is rooted in curiosity. I will ask those questions others can be afraid to ask.
The best way to succeed, and to help you achieve your objectives, is to work from a place of knowledge and understanding.
If you have a story that needs telling, or a problem to solve get in touch. Let’s find the right words to do it together.
Final word!
When not working, I love to challenge myself in the gym with weights (new hobby!), dance (usually in the kitchen), get outdoors and of course, curl up with a good book.
